It costs the National Government 15-million-Kina to train 200 students in Australia annually under the Technical and Further Education or TAFE program.
And, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Richard Maru, wants this investment by the national government to be reviewed. Mr. Maru said this when addressing 350 graduating student of International Education Agency of TAFE, during their 12th Graduation held in Port Moresby, last Friday. He also committed to writing to the PM to review the PNG Government sponsored TAFE program. Currently, the government sends 200 students annually to Cairns and Townsville, for Technical Vocational Education Training, at the cost of 75-thousand-Kina per student, while it cost between five-thousand and six-thousand-Kina for student who attend the college here in the country. Minister Maru questioned why the government is doing this when the country already has T-V-E-T institutions in-country that can deliver Australian accredited qualifications. The outspoken Minister's call comes also in light of the huge amount of costs incurred by parents in sending their children overseas, especially to the Philippines, in search of world-class technical training. Mr. Maru says this is completely unnecessary, a huge drain on parents and a loss of substantial funds that should be kept in the country. Comments are closed.
