Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, James Marape, has called upon the people of Enga to seize the numerous economic opportunities emerging with the reopening of the Porgera gold mine, urging them to abandon conflicts and invest in a brighter future. Marape emphasized that the revival of the Porgera mine transcends mere mining activities. It serves as a catalyst for overall community development, presenting unprecedented prospects in education, infrastructure, and resettlement. "Abandon arms and invest in your future through education, faith, and entrepreneurship," Marape urged the residents, particularly the youth, encouraging them to shift their focus from tribal conflicts to development and prosperity. Assuring support from the government, Marape pledged to enhance the judicial and law enforcement systems to uphold peace and justice in the Enga province. He directed his message specifically to the warring tribes residing between Wapenamenda and Wabag, urging them to reject conflict and opt for peace. Highlighting the economic benefits of the Porgera project, Marape underscored the financial gains for landowners and the local government, anticipating a revitalization of the entire area. Speaking against the cycle of violence that has primarily served the interests of a few at the expense of the well-being and future of many, Marape cautioned against becoming pawns in the games of those who profit from division. "Let us not be pawns in the games of those who profit from our division. Let's put down our arms and walk together to build a stronger, more prosperous Enga," he concluded.
