MAKING a living out of stealing is not satisfying like hard work, Magistrate Tracy Ganaii told a man after convicting him of stealing from his employer.
Lesli Mekuri, 28, from Ialibu, Southern Highlands, pleaded guilty to stealing four ceiling fans worth more than K400 yesterday in the Boroko District Court. The court heard that on Sept 15, the accused loaded the fans into a vehicle of the company he was working for and drove off without the consent of his employer. He was working as a driver of a betting shop in Gordon when he committed the offence. He took the fans and gave them to his relative and received K350. A week later, Mekuri was arrested and charged with stealing following an investigation by the company. Ganaii told the defendant there was no reason for him to steal because he was employed and earned good income and ordered him to pay a court fine of K400. The court told him to pay only K300 because he had returned the items to the company. The court ordered that the defendant’s bail money of K300 be converted to court fine as he was a first-time offender and had expressed remorse for offending. Ganaii told the defendant not to commit the same crime again but make an honest living.
