Attorney General Ano Pala's claims that Paraka bills were legally paid have been refuted.
Pala claimed in a media statement new evidence shows there is nothing illegal about millions of Kina paid to the law firm. He also said there is no Supreme Court order staying the payments. Minister Pala also stated he will refer the new evidence to Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki to help police in their investigation. However, the man who initially headed the investigation into the Paraka case said these claims are misleading. The disbanded Task Force Sweep Chairman Sam Koim said, what was in the media yesterday and today is a total opposite of a Supreme court ruling last Friday, as well as a 2007 Supreme Court decision that had stayed payments to Paraka Law firm. Pala in his statement had also said that the head of the Sweep Team confirmed this in an affidavit in June. Mr Koim however says that is ridiculous. Mr Koim said he doesn't want to run a media trial the Attorney General as the political head of the justice system must be the first to uphold the rule off law and last to scandalize the justice system.
