The National Government through the Internal Revenue Commission owes the Central Provincial Government an estimated K100 million kina in Goods and Services Tax (GST) for 2004-2010. Central Provincial Governor Robert Agarobe yesterday revealed in Parliament that a further K328 million is owed in GST dating back to 2016. Mr. Agarobe says this is for the ten percent GST that the IRC is legally required to pay them for business activities conducted within the province. In a series of questions to the Minister for Finance Charles Abel, he highlighted that the matter was brought to court and that IRC was called to comply but has failed to do so since. Minister Charles Abel in response, says it is correct the IRC is obliged by law to pay these monies to the provincial Government and that he has given assurance to look into the matter and have the issue sorted in compliance with court orders.
