Prime Minister Peter O'Neill says his government will never approve casino license in the country during his watch. He told parliament during war of words and name-calling between him and the Opposition leader Belden Namah over “pokie” machines. O'Neill and Namah had heated argument over pokies machines in Parliament.
It started after Anglimp-South Wahgi MP Komun Joe Koim asked O’Neill for a review of the number of pokie machines, and that something be done to control people playing. O’Neill, said “not a lot of us can go to Crown Casino” in Australia like Namah. “I know the Opposition leader and other MPs are very interested in casino licences,” he said. “But it will not happen under our watch.” Namah intervened with a point-of-order: “The Prime Minister continues to tell lies and mislead this Parliament. He’s a pathological liar and fraudster.” He refused to withdraw his comments when asked by Speaker Theo Zurenuoc. “I’m not going to withdraw because the Prime Minister continues to tell lies to the people of this country,” Namah said. Zurenuoc ruled Namah out of order, to which O’Neill said: “It shows the mind-set of the Opposition leader. Very childish indeed.” O’Neill reiterated that “there will be no casino licence in this country as long as this government is in power”. Comments are closed.
