THE Supreme Court has adjourned the election petition against National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop to tomorrow after hearing supplementary issues.
Justice Stephen Kassman had directed lawyers for petitioner Michael Kandiu, the Electoral Commission and Parkop earlier this week to make submissions in respect to the competency of petitions. Tinwapa Dawidi, of Dawidi Lawyers representing Parkop, and Lance Okil for the commission, made submissions relying on certain principles of the new Supreme Court decisions that should apply in certain aspects of the competence in the petition. Kandiu’s lawyer Philemon Korowi made submissions as well. Kandiu’s petition is one of three election petitions against Parkop. The other two were by Wari James Vele and Aiwa Olmi. The three petitions have similar grounds but Kandiu’s included bribery and undue influence. PNG Facts / The National Comments are closed.
