Lawyer Sam Bonner who was arrested and charged yesterday has appeared at the Waigani Committal Court this morning.
He was read his charges. They relate to his involvement with Paul Paraka Lawyers in 2007 as an agent, facilitating payments amounting to millions of kina belonging to the State. Mr Bonner from Teremanda in Wabag, Enga was charged with two counts each of stealing, conspiracy and money laundering. This relates to a K3.5 million that went through his account and passed on to Paraka Lawyers account. Its alleged he received commission from it. His charges were read to him by Magistrate Cosmos Bidar who says he is innocent until proven guilty. Bonner was released on a two thousand kina police bail, and urge not to interfere with police investigations. The Fraud Prosecutor also wanted the he not advise police on matters concerning the Paraka issues and related matters but that was refused as cases have been briefed out to other lawyers.
