The Prime Minister revealed that all logging levies from logs exports from Pomio and other parts of the country will go to the district to assist in their development.
Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill announced the Cabinet decision in parliament yesterday when responding to questions from the Member for Pomio Francis Kapavore. He said the Cabinet has decided that all logging levies received from all log exports will now be given to the district to control and use for their development instead of parking them in trust accounts so it gives the district development authority to spent according to their budget to improve the lives of the people. He also said that the National Government would soon seal the East-West New Britain Highway after all the bridge work under constructions are completed. The Prime Minister said that the Pomio district is one of the economic corridors of the country with its economical potential like the oil palm projects and timber projects and he was pleased to see the changes taking place in the area when he made a visit recently. He said the Government was committed to the people of East New Britain, Western New Britain and the Pomio district and would deliver roads to link these places. He said bridges are now under construction and when completed the government will then seal the road so that people can be able to travel easily between the two provinces. Related Post
