Thanks to the first half tries from Feleti Mateo, Michael Jennings and Beau Ryan, if not the Kumuls would have caused major upset on Australia in PNG's Rugby League history. Australia was leading 18 to PNG 4 in the first half. In front of a 15000 plus crowed, the Kumuls struck back strongly on the second half and made the Australians scoreless until Uate crossed the line to seal the game. The Kumuls fought hard and put up 3 unanswered tries in the second half. The score was locked at 18 all. Poor goal kicking options cost the game in favor of the Australians. A late try from Akuila Uate earned the Australian Prime Minister's XIII a 24-18 victory over Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on Sunday. Uate struck in the 76th minute after the Kumuls had clawed back an 18-4 halftime deficit to level the scores. Skipper Scott Prince kicked four goals for the Mal Meninga-coached team.
