Three new faces joined the Norths Devils as the team recorded another win, this time a 38-22 win over PNG Hunters at Bishop Park. The three men have different stories to tell, but they joined seamlessly into a comprehensive Devils team performance that lifted their win-loss record to 9-1. Bernard Gregorius and Auzzie Tuwhangai made their debuts in the centres, with Gregorius scoring the sweetest of tries in the 70th minute. It’s been two years since Gregorius arrived at Bishop Park from French club Lezignan. He suffered a serious knee injury in his first week of training and, with COVID-19 ruining last year, the 30-year-old had to wait until today to make his debut. The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee ("PNGOC") is aware of the recent media publications regarding a complaint made to Police against weightlifter Dika Toua.
The PNGOC is informed that Dika has engaged legal counsel, which is her Constitutional right. The PNGOC respects the Court's processes and looks forward to a speedy resolution of this matter. Until such time as the matter is concluded, Dika remains part of Team PNG for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Dika has represented Papua New Guinea since 1998 and has won numerous medals for Papua New Guinea at Oceania and Commonwealth Championships, Pacific Games and Commonwealth Games. Tsaka hails PNG LNG for renewing sponsorship for the next three years THE Papua New Guinea Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, operated by ExxonMobil PNG, yesterday announced the renewal of its sponsorship for the Kumuls and their domestic programmes with an allocation of K5.4 million over the next three years. ExxonMobil PNG executive director, production, Keith Killian said the PNG LNG project, which had been backing the Kumuls since the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, was proud to continue its support of the national men’s team. He said they were happy to support the Kumuls for this year’s World Cup in England as well as upcoming test matches and programmes. The Asia Pacific Rugby League has confirmed receipt of Tonga Ma'a Tonga Rugby League's application. The application will be reviewed by the APRL board and the board of International Rugby League (IRL) before being sent to the full members for final approval. Former Fiji Rugby Sevens player Amenoni Nasilasila has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the rape of a 24-year-old woman in 2018. Local media reports the sentencing was handed down in the Lautoka High Court today. Former SP Hunters utility back, Edene Gebbie, today signed a two-year contract with Australian NRL club the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Gebbie will be playing for the Rabbitohs for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Oil Search PNG Orchids coach Nigel Hukula has named Amelia Kuk as captain for Saturday’s inaugural Pacific Test against Fiji in Sydney. The 23-year-old from Western Highlands becomes only the second captain of the national team at test level, after Cathy Neap. Kuk will lead a new-look Orchids team with 13 debutants in the 18-woman side currently in Sydney. “She brings that leadership, and she brings together the players who are based in Australia as well as the PNG-based girls, by speaking Tok Pisin and also having that understanding of where we are in women’s rugby league and where we want to go," Hukula said. |
