The PNG Pukpuks 7s team kicks off their campaign at the Hamilton HSBC World Series Sevens against top rugby giants South Africa tomorrow (February 03rd) at the Waikato Stadium, New Zealand.
Pukpuks will again face-off South Africa, England and Russia in Pool B. The first game against the Springboks who are the 2018 Sydney Sevens Cup final runners-up will kick off at 9:06 am tomorrow. Their second game is against England (12:10 pm) followed by the last pool B game against Russia (15:44pm). The Pukpuks squad for the Hamilton Sevens includes Emmanuel Guise, Freddy Rova, Patrick Tatut, Gairo Kapana, Henry Kalua (Captain), William Tirang, Himah Alu, Eugene Tokavai, Shallendra Willie, Samuel Malambes, Arthur Clement including coach Douglas Guise. The inclusion of Pukpuks speedstars Gairo Kapana, Freddy Rova, Emmanuel Tirang and Patrick Tatut will again be required to step up to the scene at the Waikato Stadium in New Zealand. The Pukpuks sevens campaign will also see them through to the Singapore sevens in April for a spot on the World Series circuit. Good news for both the Pukpuks (men) and PNG Palais (women) is that both national teams qualified for the 2018 Sevens Rugby World Cup in San Francisco given their outstanding performance at the 2017 Oceania Rugby sevens.
