NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has approved the NCD Lagatois bid for rugby league’s 2014 Digicel Cup.
Parkop signed the expression of interest to back the Lagatois as the second franchise from the nation’s capital. Papua New Guinea National Rugby League general manager Hubert Warupi is aware of the expression of interest from the Lagatois. That is the second new expression of interest, with the Oro Otohus (Chiefs) bid supported by Oro Governor Gary Juffa. The annual budget for the Lagatois is K1,317,910. Parkop and National Capital District Commission will fund the facelift and upgrading of the rundown Kone Tigers Oval to an international standard as the home ground of the new franchise. Parkop said that was to allow young, aspiring sportsmen in the city to have a fair and equal opportunity to take part in the country’s top rugby league competition. “This team will not only represent the population in the city but will draw players from Central where great potential has been overlooked in the past,” he said. “We are talking to possible sponsors and indications are good so far. NCD Suburban Sports League Association chairman Billy Aki thanked Parkop and the NCDC for their continued support and backing of sporting activities. Comments are closed.
