PRIME Minister’s XIII coaches Adrian Lam (PNG) and Laurie Daley (Australia) have put their names behind this year’s theme for the annual clash.
In a joint statement released by the AUSAID office yesterday, former Kumul captain Lam (pictured left) and Kangaroo great (pictured right) endorsed an open letter to the people of Papua New Guinea, particularly players and sports fans, encouraging a change of attitudes to women. The theme of the 2014 PM’s XIII match is “strong men respectr women”. “Rugby league players can set a positive example for what it means to be a strong man,’ the statement said. “That’s why the message of this year’s PM’s XIII match is ‘Strong Men Respect Women’. “Being a strong man is not about how big you are or how many tackles you make on a football field. “It’s about self-control, working together, supporting and respecting each other and calling out bad behaviour. “Strong men do the right thing and always act on it. They don’t respond aggressively. They consider their actions and the consequences for their family, friends and community. “Strong men know they can always improve themselves. They ask for help and help others. They forgive people for mistakes and talk through solutions.” “Men stand strong by working side by side with women with mutual respect and support for each other. “They say no to violence and speak out against it in their communities. “They know living in a home free of violence is better for all Papua New Guineans and their futures.” The National Comments are closed.
