Stanely Gene: Getty Images Huddersfield Giants are teaming up with one of its major partners, Bond It, along with former Giants legend Stanley Gene, to launch a shirt amnesty that will allow the Claret and Gold fans to purchase the club's 2013 replica shirt at the best price in Super League whilst in turn donating to the Giants icon's personal charity in the process. The soon to be announced launch date will allow supporters to drop off old replica playing shirts, of all ages and sizes, in return for a £10 discount towards a NEW 2013 replica home playing shirt. Furthermore as part of the 2013 season ticket package you will receive an additional £5 discount meaning season ticket holders in particular, will benefit from a total of £15 off a new playing shirt ? so make sure YOU purchase your 2013 season ticket prior to the Early Bird Discount date on Friday 30th November. The Giants and Bond It, will then work with 'The Stanley Gene Foundation' to ship the old shirts to the former Giants legend's home of Papua New Guinea and with Rugby League an International Sport in PNG, YOUR shirts will make a huge difference to the deprived people of PNG. Stanley, who played for the Giants from 2001 to 2005, plans to officially launch his foundation in a few month's time, but he already has a link agreed with DW sports to send several containers packed with old clothing and equipment to PNG every year, while his main aim is to eventually create enough funds to build an academy of sport in PNG.
Stanley, who has first-hand experience of the challenging living conditions in his native country, at one time struggled for water himself, but last year he built a water supply that allows clean water to run through 7.4KM of his homeland meaning 1200 people now have fresh water and he insists that the fans shirt donations will massively help his people. "The people are very humble and I want to help them. The shirts won't bring water, but the shirts will make a huge difference", he said. "I used to wear no boots when I was young. I remember tying plastic bags in a ball with elastic bands and using it as a rugby ball. I have seen kids climbing up trees to watch Rugby in PNG - the fans shirts will make a huge difference", he continued. "I was brought up the hard way and I want to give something back. It makes me happy when I see the kids with a smile on their face." David Moore, the Managing Director of Bond It commented: "Here at Bond It we were looking for a way in which we could use our partnership with the Giants to not only give something back to their supporters but also offer support to the wider Rugby League community", he said. "Personally I am a huge League fan and I know what the sport has to offer, not just as a fun activity and day out but also as a way of bringing communities together and breaking through barriers. This I believe is also very close to Bond It's values", he continued. "It brings immense pride that we can help facilitate this wonderful activity and are excited to be working closely with Huddersfield Giants and Stanley Gene to bring it to fruition. We urge all of the Claret and Gold faithful to support this project as there will be benefits for all involved." Giants, Commercial Manager Paul Cribb is delighted with the upcoming project: "It's great to welcome the Bond It team as a Giants partner. Bond It have been pivotal in working with us on the 'shirt amnesty' and this project would not have been possible without them", he revealed. "The whole campaign is a win - win - win because the Giants will be rewarding our loyal fans with an amazing offer on replicas and the Rugby League mad nation of PNG will have the shirts distributed by a Giants Legend (Stanley) to a number of his motherlands great causes, while Bond It will have launched their new partnership with the Giants in an extremely positive light." And Stanley, who is currently coaching the U19's at Hull KR, has promised Bond It's Managing Director, David Moore, a trip to his home in PNG for David's contribution to his foundation. "With David's help, I would love to take him to PNG. I will look after him and I will take him in September time when it is National Independence day and he will see different tribes and cultures - I will take him to my world, my ghetto." Full details will be revealed first at www.giantsrl.com with details of when the shirt amnesty will commence.
