Digicel Cup action heats up this weekend in Lae and Kokopo. The home side the Agmark Rabaul Gurias take on the mighty Enga Provincial Mioks. This is the main game for this weekend in the Digicel Cup finals which is the major qualifying final at Kokopo’s Kalabond oval. The Kalabond oval also known as the “graveyard” will come alive this Sunday as the home crowd will be getting behind their home team to ensure they reach the grand final for the second year running. The Radaaz boys are favourites to win this match however the Mioks cannot be written off so easily after they thrashed the Muruks 48–20 in Wabag last Sunday. Mioks Captain, David Loko once again lead his team from the front with a barnstorming man of the match display and grabbed two tries to his ledger in the process. He will have to bring his “A game” to the fore and lead his troops into battle as they look to tear down the walls of the fortress that the Gurias have built at Kalabond oval. It will not be an easy ride for either side and whoever comes out on top can rest assured of a grand final place come September 9. The loser of this match will live to fight another day and have a chance to redeem themselves when they face the winners of the Muruks versus Vipers game. The winner from there will then move on to face the team that is on standby for the grand final.
In the other match, the SNS Port Moresby Vipers will embark on a mission this weekend to revive their glory days and restore pride to the nation’s capital when they take on the SBSL Mendi Muruks in Lae on Sunday. This Sunday’s elimination final will be a brotherly affair when the Muruks host the Vipers as last week Sunday’s man of the match and Vipers halfback Atte Wabo faces his former team with big brother and Kumul hooker Charlie Wabo. Atte moved to the capital city team this year in the hope of stepping out of his big brother’s shadow and has been carving out his own name filling the utility role diligently for the Vipers. There will be no love shown between the brothers when both sides meet as they try to get their team over the line with a view of making the grand final in sight. EMTV Comments are closed.
