THE famous Mt Hagen Cultural Show is on again this weekend at the Rabiamul rugby league oval. Provincial events council chairman, Samuel Angimb, said about 500 tourists from around the world had made arrangements with travel agents in the province to attend the show. Angimb said the show was sponsored by Coca-Cola Amatil along with minor sponsors Western Highlands’ provincial government, Daewon Trading and Farmset. Eighty cultural groups from throughout the country registered its take part. Angimb said this year’s show will be “pure traditional, unlike the previous shows”. He said preparations were under way to accommodate the singsing groups from outside the province. “We want to make this year’s show a success for tourists, participants, sponsors and show goers to come and enjoy the weekend,” he said. Coca-Cola gave K45,000 for the show, with its regional manager, Chris Harker, presenting K35,000, plus K5,000 worth of products and K5,000 worth of merchandised item. Harker said the company enjoyed a long relationship with the Mt Hagen show and was happy to be back as the major sponsor. |
