Papua New Guinea Politicians are not the only ones in the quest for overall prosperity. Every citizen is part of the quest and so has an important role to play. But people are deeply bound by a belief that politicians will provide everything to their doorstep. And such perception prevents collective efforts from many individuals, diminishing unity overtime. In order for a vehicle to move from point A to point B, it must be road worthy. Naming from a vehicle driver, steering-rod, clutch and injector to a tire, they must all be positioned firmly to make the trip possible. And that is exactly the case with our political culture. The politicians need our collective roles to better our lives as a whole. If for instance, the government attempts to expand our economy, as it is a growing controversy, how could it attract investors and enhance our economy when PNG has the fastest growing rate of security companies in the pacific. Adding onto that, many of our vulnerable citizens encounter ongoing gender based violence (GBV) along with petty crimes, while almost every shop and office buildings are surrounded by horrific barbed wire and electric fences, apart from engaging security personnel. All of which paints a different story where it discourages the investors to deal with us. And so collective effort is important. Every citizen must be responsive to our government’s decisions by playing a receptive role that is agreeable to the ambitions of our visionary leaders. If collective effort is to be employed, every constituent from the top level to the bottom must obey the rule of law, with or without the presence of the law enforcement committees. As people abide by the laws, peace and social stability will naturally ascend with which it will minimize the need to erect those frightening fences within the metropolitan areas. In effect it will eat away the fast growing pace of our security industry, depicting signs of peace, social order and unity where foreign and local investors will flood our struggling economies. Thus more employment opportunities will be created and that the workers legal responsibilities such as GST and income tax will be met, increasing the state’s revenue. As a result of the high influx of economic activities, our economy will boom as it is what most of our politicians aimed for and have never achieved. It starts from a single person. If PNG will truly break free from all the barriers, it requires the cooperation of every person. Everyone must live in accordance with the natural law and in cases of disputes, avoid taking laws into their own hands but let the law take its own course.
