The Minister for Works, Francis Awesa, has denied being held by security at the Manila Airport in the Philippines for trying to smuggle a firearm to Papua New Guinea, on Sunday.
Mr. Awesa told NBC News this afternoon, he was carrying a firecracker-like torch with batteries on, which he had bought for his children. He says, he went through normal airport security checks, and the item was removed. A passenger on flight PX 011 from Manila said, Mr. Awesa was held by airport security for trying to board the plane with a firearm, and that the flight was kept waiting for Mr. Awesa to be cleared. The P-N-G Embassy in Manila is not aware of the incident, and Air Niugini says, there was no delay in the flight. NBC
