Police Investigators have been given a month, to compile evidence against
Western Province Governor, Ati Wobiro.... Mr. Wobiro and Provincial Administrator Doctor Modowa Gumoi, appeared before the Waigani Committal Court yesterday, to be read their charges. Both men were arrested last week, in Port Moresby. The duo were charge with two counts each of dishonestly applying for funds totaling 1-million kina and are out on 5-thousand kina bail each. Their charges relate to a 1- million kina payment released by the Fly River Provincial Government as legal fees rendered to Posman Kua Aisi Lawyers last May. This as part payment of a 10 million kina that was to be paid out from the Western Province People’s Dividend Trust Account funds. The committal court raised an issue as to whether the implicated law firm would represent both accused and warned them not to interfere with witnesses until their appearance next month. Meantime Governor Wobiro outside the court house still maintained his innocence saying the payment was legal. He said the arrest was politically motivated and lashed out at the way police carried out his arrest. Comments are closed.
