The Vanuatu contingent to the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture face being stranded, if funds are not released quickly to Air Vanuatu.
The National Government through the National Cultural Commission, reportedly released half-a-million-Kina for travel costs of the contingent here. However, NBC News is reliably informed that Air Vanuatu has not yet received the payment and won't take the delegates back to Port Vila. Cultural Commission acting Director, Dr.Jacob Simet, has confirmed the money being wired to the Vanuatu Cultural Commission. "As far as I know, the money we have been trying to send it and there was a problem with the account number which we have now try to sort out with the delegation here. We need to get their account number right because we went to the bank to do the transfer and we couldn't get it through. Because we were told about Vanuatu's problems about a week before the opening so I have to go through a number of people including the minister and other people to see what we can do ah, because Vanuatu is very important country not only to the festival but to the MSG grouping."
