POLICE Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki is expected to appear in court at the end of this month to face contempt charges for failing to enforce the warrant of arrest issued by the district court for the arrest of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The matter was briefly heard on Friday at the Waigani National Court and was adjourned to October 31. The contempt charges were filed by the director of National Fraud and Anti-Corruption directorate Mathew Damaru and deputy director Timothy Gitua. Since the Supreme Court had ruled that the police commissioner had no power to stop district court warrants, the issue of contempt against Mr Vaki was pursued in court to have him answer to four contempt charges.
