Mr Patrick Kaiku, political science lecturer at UPNG was arrested and charged for his part in the Dec. 1, WALK FOR FREEDOM, celebrating West Papuan Independence Day. He is now at Boroko Police station.
Police also arrested two others Fred Mambrasar, a West Papuan and Tony Fofoe from Gulf. Mr. Mambrasar told reporters, they had written to police last month, seeking permission to host the Walk of Freedom, but never got a positive response. Attempts to get comments from the National Capital District police hierarchy have not been successful. The A-B-C reported that the N-C-D Governor raised the West Papuan flag. Powes Parkop was recently awarded the John Rumbiak Human Rights Defender Award 2013, for advocating and promoting the rights of the people of West Papua to self determination. Comments are closed.
