Two first-year nursing students were raped by four men at the University of Technology's School of Nursing Campus. According to Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie, the four men entered the premises by cutting through the fibre wall of the ablution block. Wagambie said the four had keys to the rooms but could not open the doors to the first five rooms. They managed to open the sixth room where two student nurses were sleeping. “The two female students in the room were raped and robbed of their personal properties,” he said. He said the girls called out for help but the security guards arrived late. The matter was reported to Lae police. “One suspect is being questioned in relation to this incident,” Wagambie said. “I am very concerned about the type of security arrangements at the college. Female dormitories need to be well secured.” The alleged incident happened about 15 hours after Health Minister Michael Malabag had opened the two new male and female dormitories at Unitech last Friday, which was funded by the Australian Government. POLICE have arrested one of the four men who broke into a girls’ and raped the two students.
