Two men were burnt to death in a house fire in the Dei District of Western Highlands Province.
Father of two Daniel Poiya, 35 and his cousin 18 year old Sent Moka’s burnt bodies were recovered by relatives hours later in what are believed to be suspicious circumstances. The remains were discovered in what was the bedroom of the house. The two men from the Minimbi Papiki tribe slept inside Mr Poiya’s house while his wife and two children slept nearby in a different house at the Rui Coffee plantation. Local leader Simon Olga said the manner in which both the men died inside the house was highly suspicious. “They were both young men and could have escaped or at least have attempted to flee from the fire. The smoke and heat could have woken them up,” Mr Olga said. Wide spread rumors claimed the men could have been murdered and their bodies burnt to cover it up.
