Telikom has commissioned a project to upgrade its gateway routers at Ela Beach to improve its ability, to withstand attacks on its internet services in the country.
In a statement, Telikom says users may have experienced slowness with the service over the past weeks, because of a deliberate attack and vandalism on one of its wholesale Internet Service Provider customers. This led to a slower-than-normal service of internet delivered into PNG over its APNG2 Link. Telikom's Chief Operating Officer Eugene Singh, says an orchestrated and severe Denial of Service attack targeted at Datec's ISP caused massive congestion on internet capacity delivered into Port Moresby over the APNG2 Link. He said the attack overloaded their Tiare Gateway Routers at Ela Beach, thus affecting well over 2000 internet devices across the globe and limiting the capacity of internet services into the country. Telikom has experienced a lot of attacks and vandalism on its services and properties over the past years, costing the company millions to maintain. Comments are closed.
