Telikom PNG is testing an advanced broadband service that offers 10 times faster internet speed than what is available today in Papua New Guinea.
Called the ADSL (ADSL2+), the service would be delivered through a modem that comes with built-in Wi-fi capability, making it easier to connect to the internet using faster infrastructure that could be used by many users. Telikom said with the rapid shift to Wi-fi enabled devices that included tablets and smartphones, more and more people connected to the internet to do more than just web surfing and news browsing, playing games, doing video conference or watch online movies. Telikom said its coming ADSL service would have a big impact on the lives of the people. “The internet has changed people’s lives in terms of news, communication; sending files, shop, listen to music and share videos. These changes mean that service providers must adapt their network to cater for increased data usage and a better customer experience, or else, such traffic will strain their networks and provide poor performance, Telikom said.. Telikom PNG programme manager for the NBN project Jeffrey Bean said: “Discerning customers of today want more than connectivity and they demand and deserve a much richer user experience. “Telikom has been listening and would respond to this challenge.” Bean said Telikom’s enhanced packet core infrastructure would deliver a significantly simplified and improved user experience in the way customers get connected and are served.
