As Port Moresby prepares to host the biggest regional sports challenge, another step was taken forward today, as it marked the first ever Press Conference by the General Management Team for the 2015 Pacific Games Team PNG, led by Chef De Mission Mr Richard Kassman.
Today’s meet with the Media was to introduce the Management Team and also talk about certain issues that are circulating around and provide comfort in terms of the level of preparation for Team PNG. “We have a general Management Structure because we have 800 members of Team PNG. So that’s 650 athletes and 150 Coaches and Managers and the General Managers making up the team,” says Mr Kassman. He adds, “Being the host, we have the largest team so it’s critical that we have the management structure around that can look after our team.” “In terms of our athletes training, for 2015 it’s been an unprecedented preparation for Team PNG and I’m very proud to say that on behalf of the team,” says the Chef De Mission. Meaning, the Milestone achievement of having our very own High Performance Centre has definitely instil a high level of mindset and intensity into the athletes preparations which covers a whole lot of different skills and training to get our athletes into the best shape and can perform at the highest level. Some important dates also announced by the Chef De Mission is on the 27th of February which is tomorrow is the deadline for all the 28 sports or teams participating in a sport to present their team list to the Management that includes Reserves and Non-reserve players that will be provided to the Justification Committee to justify the Athletes and start the Accreditation process on May 20. He said one week before the opening ceremony the Team PNG will be assembled and by 1st of July they will be moved into the Games Village for accomadation. Kassman wants to reassure Papua New Guineans from our athletes’ perspective that they are in good hands and Team PNG is ready, set to go.
