Grade 8, 10 and 12 exams for students in New Ireland Province may be jeopardized if the New Ireland Provincial Administration fails to address the outstanding 2014 and 2015 teachers leave entitlements.
Teachers in the province have not been paid their 2014 leave entitlements, and they are demanding this be settled quickly. They say failure by the Provincial Administration to meet their demand by the 2nd of October will affect exams for grades 8, 10 and 12 students. The teachers also demanded cheques raised but not received by teacher be investigated. Leave entitlement cheques of national teachers that have transferred out of the province be returned to the provincial treasury office and a bulk payment made to a travel agent in East New Britain be clarified to teachers as to who authorize the payment and recipients of cheques. Meantime an official from the provincial education office says outstanding claims for teachers 2014 leave entitlements have been raised to the provincial treasury office to be processed. The educational official on its staff from the provincial treasury's office say, the first batch of payments should be ready by the end of this week with the final batch to be paid by next week.
