Tuberculosis is a growing concern for the country and efforts must be made to fight the curable disease. PM Peter O’Neill made this remarks after a meeting with World Health Organisation Regional Director Dr. Shin Young-soo yesterday where a range of issues affecting the health of Papua New Guineans were discussed.
While PM O’Neill said the delivery Free Health Care Policy was showing improvement in the country and reaching more Papua New Guineans, he said many challenges were still been faced and one of which was the increased number of TB cases. World Health Organisation has warned of the increase in Tuberculoses cases and has cautioned Papua New Guineans to note that TB Patients are disciplined and must stay faithful to the course of their medications recommended to them by doctors. WHO Regional Director Dr. Shin Young-soo made this known after a meeting with the PM Peter O’Neill, Health Minister Michael Malabag and his Secretary Pascoe Kase and other colleague ministers. Meantime specific mention was given to the high cases particularly in Gulf, Western Province and in NCD. PM Peter O’Neill has issued a precautionary message to all residents in these provinces to avoid contracting the disease.
