Police have given an undertaking to the Supreme Court, not to arrest the Prime Minister until the matter comes for a review hearing, next Thursday.
The urgent application, filed by Peter O'Neill's lawyer yesterday, was heard this afternoon for directions, at the Supreme Court. All parties in the hearing agreed to adjourn the matter for a week to give the State and Minister James Marape time to file and serve their applications before next Monday. The court also adjourned the matter to give time for parties to prepare arguments before a three man bench hears the application. Sam Bonner who represented police gave undertaking the police won't pursue the warrant of arrest. A court undertaking is a promise by a party that they can be punished by the court if they fail to abide by what they state. The District Court will rule tomorrow, on an application to set aside the same warrant of arrest it issued to police. Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki, is the applicant. Meantime, the Opposition has welcomed the National Court decision to dismiss the Prime Minister's stay application on his arrest warrant. Comments are closed.
