The National Executive Council has recently endorsed the appointment of a new chairman and directors of the Ok Tedi Mining Limited Board.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said Cabinet endorsed the appointment of Sir Moi Avei as OTML Chairman for a period of three years replacing the Secretary for Treasury, Dairi Vele. “Mr Vele will continue as a director on the board following the NEC’s revocation of his appointment as chairman,” Prime Minister O’Neill said. The Prime Minister said Cabinet also approved the appointments of two new directors on the board and they include Roger Higgins and Glen Kuri for a period of three years. “Sir Moi has had a long career in the public service and had served two terms in Cabinet as Minister for Petroleum,” he said. “Mr Higgins has over 40 years of experience in the mining industry and during this time has worked in PNG at both Panguna and was the former managing director of Ok Tedi Mine from 1997-2002. “Mr Kuri is the leading Papua New Guinean expert in mineralogy. He worked for BHP for over ten years as a metallurgist in different mines and laboratories. He also worked in Ok Tedi for 12 years as General Manager for Business Support Unit responsible for four departments including asset protection, human resources, infrastructure and productivity improvement.” Prime Minister O’Neill has congratulated Sir Moi and the two new directors on their recent appointments.
