Former Chairman of the Air Niugini Board, Sir James Neng Tjeong, has died.
The airline board, management and staff have expressed their sadness at the passing. Sir James' passing is a loss to the airline industry, business community and PNG as a whole. The national flag carrier has conveyed its deepest condolences to Lady Judy and the Tjeong family and relatives at the passing of Sir James. Sir James contributed immensely to Air Niugini as a member of the Board for many years and as chairman from 2006 to 2011. He was reappointed to the Air Niugini Board as Director in November 2012 and as Deputy Chairman in January 2014, before resigning in April this year, due to ill health. He displayed vision, inspiration and drive at the board level to help set the pathway to recovery for Air Niugini, particularly in the difficult period. He led by example and demanded the same standards from everyone, and as a successful businessman, always wanted to see Air Niugini operate as a business and a responsible employer of some 2,000 employees. Air Niugini treasurers the memory of Sir James and his legacy for many years to come. Sir James is also the owner of the famous Food World chain of supermarkets in the nation's capital and Garamut Enterprises.
