Plans for joint defence operations between PNG and Fiji have been questioned by former military commanders.
The agreement could see PNG personnel joining Fiji soldiers in overseas peace keeping missions. But former PNG Defence Force Major General Jerry Singirok says an unclear command structure means a plan is unlikely to work on a practical level. "Working in partnership is not a problem but I do not believe that the command structures should be changed so that Papua New Guinea work under Fijian command structure. "Basically PNG has to operate independently," Singirok said. Comments are closed.
