Port Moresby Governor assures the residents of the city that shops won't be shut down and there is no need to panic. He posted the following statement via socila media. NO NEED TO PANIC OVER PERCEIVED CLOSURE OF SHOPS AND MARKETS! WE WON’T HAVE A SHORTAGE OF FOOD SUPPLY I am attending a joint emergency NEC and Governors' meeting and it has been resolved that: 1. Shops won’t be close as of tomorrow. 2. Food will not run out as the import of food items will not stop during the state of emergency. 3. Markets will not be closed but vendors must exercise social distancing and do hand sanitation on entry and exit regularly. 4. All road side informal markets and sale of betel nut will close. 5. There is no curfew planned yet as part of SOE. 6. PMVs have not been stopped yet but if they are allowed to operate, they will have to exercise social distancing and sanitizing. 7. No public gathering over 100. 8. No church services unless they practice social distancing or have less than 100 per service. 9. All schools closed for 14 days starting formally tomorrow. 10. Restaurant and cafes will be open with no more than 100 people at any one time and practise social distancing and sanitizing. Things are unfolding as we speak! Please do not panic buy. We as a city will handle this swiftly. I will elaborate more on testing and on our health strategy later. Thank you everyone. Please remain calm and kind.
