More than 20,000 people living at the Eight-Mile settlement in Moresby Northeast electorate will now have access to a clean water supply.
For the past 25 years, mothers and daughters have been fetching water with big containers from a tap placed near the main road. Moresby Northeast MP Labi Amaiu noticed their plight and decided to take water taps through the DSIP funds for effortless water accessibility. With the water service provider, Eda Ranu team on board, they planned to set the water supply to a full pressure right to the door step to benefit the long suffering multi-cultural settlers. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill launched the K5.2 million water project on Monday. He announced the rebuilding of the Eight-Mile Primary School and a new health centre. NCD Governor Powes Parkop supported the initiative with a K500,000 cheque presentation from the National Capital District Commission, and pledged another K1 million from the Provincial Support Improvement Program (PSIP) grant towards the water project.
