Mr Rabura says the Citizenship Advisory Committee, which is made up of two politicians, the Chief Immigration Officer and others, has thoroughly screened the applicants. “In the process we look at length of residency in PNG, the character, what they are doing in PNG, to make sure they don’t become a burden on the country,” Mr Rabura said. An independent body also conducted background research on each of the applicants before they were granted their PNG citizenship. “Part of the secretariat’s job is to seek character clearances from NOI, police and we look at their other records, financial records that they submit, in terms of their financial ability or capability to sustain themselves, check their business enterprises if they have established business to ensure they’re legitimate”, he said. Mr Rabura says he believes each of the 24 people will be a good citizen and contribute meaningfully to the development of PNG. NBC/PNGfacts Next News >> Fiji values PNG ties
