Port Moresby: The Royal Papua Yacht Club hosted the launch of PNG’s newest channel last night - TVWAN SPORTS HD. Celebrities who flew in to meet and entertain the crowd of die-hard local sports fanatics, included Gordon Tallis (Fox Sports Commentator and former Aussie rugby league legend) and Brendan Cannon (former Wallabies superstar and Fox Sports commentator.)
Guests were treated to a lively on-stage Q & A session that saw the super-stars forced to field the odd embarrassing question from the floor. Hats off to the fan who asked Gordon how many players he had knocked out during his lengthy career! Both commentators displayed some fancy footwork side-stepping each-others’ banter, much to the delight of the crowd. It was a big win for TVWAN SPORTS with many “conversions” to their subscription television platform taken on the night. Broadcasting in High Definition, TVWAN SPORTS HD promises to deliver the best rugby union, rugby league and football from around the nation and overseas: all your favourite codes and competitions and all your favourite teams; your virtual front-row seat to all the action, available 24/7. Digicel’s CEO, John Mangos, explained how the new channel was being locally produced, allowing the TVWAN SPORTS HD team to “cherry-pick” content that would have the broadest appeal to the people of PNG. “It’s amazing to see how the Digicel Play team have crafted this channel, directly responding to their audience’s desires”, he said. “We’re looking at the ultimate win-win situation.” The CEO of the SP Hunters, Brad Tassell, also announced that future games played by his team would air exclusively on Digicel Play’s free-to-view local channel, TVWAN. So now it’s even more imperative for fans to rush out and buy a Digicel Play Box before the season kicks off in early March! TVWAN SPORTS HD is the latest channel in the Digicel Play line up, clearly appealing to the nation’s all-consuming passion for sport. It is only available to those who subscribe to a PrePaid package with Digicel Play. For more information phone 1515, or visit a participating Digicel store today.
