Foreigners working and living in Papua New Guinea have been urged to respect the country's laws. SOME foreigners employed in the country are facilitating their friends who are taxi drivers, street cleaners, tea boys and rubbish collectors in their country. Kompiam-Ambum MP John Pundari, the Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change said foreigners employed here must put the interests of locals first before their overseas friends. He said there were foreigners who aggressively worked towards development needs and the promotion of the small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country. “There are those who come with excellent CVs and we employ them in our financial institutions, superannuation, agencies of government and authorities and multinational companies,” he said. “These foreigners even use their positions of responsibilities and executive powers to entertain their friends who would otherwise be taxi drivers, rubbish collectors and tea boys in their own country to take over business opportunities our own citizens can competently undertake. “Have some respect for the people of this country that gave you an excellent employment with good package enough to buy your loaf of bread. “You come to serve the people of this country and you must prioritise citizens of this country and no more entertaining of foreign friends.”
