Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill visited Warangoi in the Sinivit local level government area of East New Britain Province last Friday to continue his campaign for Peoples National Congress Party candidate Francis Waina in the Pomio by-election.
The Prime Minister Hon. Peter O'Neill visited the Warangoi station soon after arriving from Palmalmal, also in Pomio district. He told those who had gathered at the station that he will assist the candidate to change the district in terms of development. He said Pomio currently has about K25 million in district support grants to spend on infrastructure development. He also said the Government’s policy to put more funding into districts was changing PNG and rural communities. The prime minister highlighted other government policies including the tuition fee free education and subsidised basic health care. He said the TFF policy was now into its fourth year adding that educating all children will lead to improved living standards and that was why education in PNG was a priority. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill also announced the introduction of financial assistance to be given to tertiary students starting next year. He said K200 million will be made available for students to borrow to assist with their university fees. The Prime Minister was accompanied by other government ministers including Minister for National Planning and Monitoring Charles Abel, Trade and Industry Minister Richard Maru, Education Minister Nick Kuman and East New Britain Governor Ereman ToBaining Jr. Works Minister Francis Awesa who was in the province on a separate business, also accompanied the Prime Minister to Warangoi. The Works Minister was in the province with Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar to inspect the condition of a number of roads in that province. He said ENB was a very important economic province in the country in terms of agriculture and tourism. He said the Government will also extend its support towards tourism through the extension of the Tokua Airport
