Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, has ordered an independent Public Inquiry, into the issue of his arrest.
Mr. O'Neill says, Australian Judge, Justice Warwick Andrews, will head the Inquiry, where those involved including himself, will be summoned to give evidence. He told a Port Moresby news conference today, the Inquiry will put the whole issue to rest. "We feel that Attorney General's Office and the Justice Ministry and Justice Department has been compromised for many, many years on this issue of Paraka Legal fees". "Finance Department has been compromised for many, many years over twelve or so years for Paraka Legal issues. "Off course, police and the National Fraud Squad and all the other agencies have been compromised as we see it today". "We've also now being implicated, Prime Minister's office has been implicated". "Even though the Prime Minister's office started this investigation. We feel that it is important that we all now have a public independent inquiry so under the Commission of Inquiry's Act, I have today institute a Commission of Inquiry to this whole saga," Prime Minister O'Neill says. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has again denied writing and signing a letter, for the payments to be made to Paul Paraka Law firm. This is despite fresh evidences collected by Task Force Sweep and a Forensic Examination Report, from the Sydney-based Forensic Document Services, alleging the signature to be that of the Prime Minister. In a news conference this afternoon, Mr O'Neill says, the purported letter did not originate from his office. "These are not new issues. They are done on the same letters, based on the same letters that were purported to be signed by myself from this office and sent to the Finance Secretary and the Treasurer at that time". "Let me deny that categorically as we speak today". "I understand that a photocopy was being floated around and a foreignsic analysis was done on it; the signature appears to be the similar to my signature but that does not mean that it is conclusive. This has become almost like a political football," Mr O'Neill says. Mr O'Neill is disappointment, over the processes in serving the warrant of arrest on him. He says, proper protocol should have been followed and respect accorded to the Prime Minister's office. He described this as a very bad precedent for the future. Comments are closed.
