Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has welcomed the World Bank’s support for the government’s agriculture and road maintenance program.
An agreement worth over 300-million Kina or 150-million US Dollars, was signed by Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch with World Bank executives in Washington DC in the United States last week for the two initiatives. Mr O'Neill said the World Bank has been PNG's development partner for a long time, and the support for the two initiatives was an ongoing one, tailored towards government’s priorities and development agenda. Close to 90-million Kina, or about 30-million Dollars, will be spent to support over 60,000 small cocoa and coffee farmers over five years under the Productive Partnerships in Agriculture Project whilst under the second initiative, over 200-million Kina, or about 120-million dollars, will be spent on a road maintenance and rehabilitation program which started in 2011.
