Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has broken his silence on the held vote of no-confidence last Friday by defending the state of the economy and the management of the finances. This he did when he visited East Sepik Province, particularly Yangoru station, on Wednesday to launch the Government’s K100 million Sepik chicken, grain and cocoa project. He was accompanied by 30-strong delegation of ministers, departmental heads and public enterprises heads. He told the people that, while some politicians had been criticising the government, they did not have to listen and take in but rather make their own assessment. He said this because a number of those MPs even held important offices for 10 years or more and the question should be asked as to what they had achieved. "In our Government we have the experience and the know-how to manage the economy and we have been doing this for many years. "We are facing global challenges including low commodity prices, but our Government is managing the economy. Our interest rates have come down, creating employment, our foreign exchange is stable. "Government had set in place limits because there were people who were not doing the right thing. "People including those on social media can criticise all they want, if they are genuine we will listen. From the host province four of the national MP’s were on hand to receive the PM including the host Richard Maru. Mr Maru in acknowledging that this was the PM’s visit after the vote of no-confidence had thanked the PM for visiting the province. Post Courier/PNGfacts
