Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill has commended the Department of Justice and Attorney-General for generating the majority of the national government’s legislative program in 2013. The Prime Minister’s commendation was delivered to the Attorney-General and Justice Minister, Kerenga Kua during a recent National Executive Council meeting in Port Moresby. Mr Kua said Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill was happy with the department’s performance in 2013, when it generated the majority of the government’s legislative enactment in Parliament.
“Our excellent performance resulted in the O’Neill-Dion Government enacting over 50 legislations in that one year alone.“Never before has any government before or after Independence, enacted over 50 legislations in one single year,” Mr Kua said. He also said that other senior leaders in the government have also expressed similar sentiments. In a circular to all staff, the secretary for Justice and the Attorney-General, Dr Lawrence Kalinoe, advised that the commitment and dedication in what they do in their line of work has contributed to this outstanding and commendable performance by the Prime Minister, the O’Neill-Dion Government and other political leaders. “The part you played in-dividually, either in human resources or accounts etc. etc. has added towards this achievement.“These roles have a flow on effect leading to our perform-ance as an organisation, so ir-respective of where you are, your work counts towards this performance.” “This is also a vindication of the strength of work planning and performance review and monitoring process that we have embarked on as an organisation of tasks for implementation in the period of the review,” Dr Kalinoe said.He said the Prime Minister, Attorney-General and Justice Minister have encouraged departmental staff to keep up the good work to improve their performance from 2013.
