Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill will make a statement and table a report on the K3 billion loan from global international bank UBS when parliament sits today.
Leader of Government business James Marape yesterday confirmed that this was among a list of important issues to be dealt with during this parliamentary session. Also on the agenda are important enabling Bills such as the Whistle-blowers and Freedom of Information legislation to support the establishment of an Independent Commission Against Corruption. Marape said other items of interest on the agenda include the Sovereign Welfare Fund and Kumul structure legislation and District Development Authority Act. Also up for debate is the integration of political parties and candidate legislation to replace the joint district planning and budget priority committees. According to the notice paper from Clerk of Parliament Vela Konivaro released yesterday, Parliament will debate the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Special Agriculture and Business Leases, the status of PNG LNG project and other oil and gas projects, regional resettlement arrangement for asylum seekers transferred to PNG, Treasury Bills, and reports from the Auditor-General. Private business will include enhancing and mainstreaming environment sustainability, the status of the National Housing Corporation, and recent issues on Bougainville. Marape said he was satisfied with the way Parliament was progressing so far. “I’ve divided Parliament into four yearly sessions – February, May, August and November,” he said. Comments are closed.
