PORT MORESBY: The Opposition has questioned the motives of the police association following its failure to stand by three senior police officers who are involved in the case against the Prime Minister. Opposition Leader, Don POMB Polye says the three senior officers, Thomas Eluh, Mathew Damaru and Timothy Gitua have risen to be the custodians of the law in the case against the PM yet the police association has failed to stand by these officers. Mr Polye says the three senior officers are defending the constitution against those who seem to be using public purse to defend and protect their own personal interest. Mr Polye says the right thing for the Police Union to do is to throw its support behind the three senior officers. The Opposition said there a certain things the union did which he supports such as its stand against political interference into the police force. Polye said constant changes in the Police Commissioner as opposed by the union are unhealthy for the force. He, however, said whilst he supports the police association on this, he would like to see the union backing its three senior officers in the case against the prime minister. Meanwhile, the Opposition Leader has accused Prime Minister Peter O’Neill of using the public resources to fight his court cases. Mr Polye described this as “Not fair” for the country especially when PNG is facing financial crisis. Press Release
