PNG’s Finance Minister and Wapenamanda MP, Miki Kaeok, has criticized political opponents for allegedly spreading false claims about his and his staff’s use of Maserati Quattroporte vehicles for personal purposes. He labeled the rumors as misleading and unfounded. Mr. Kaeok clarified that allegations of him and his team using three of the 33 Maserati Quattroporte vehicles for personal use were entirely false. He explained that these vehicles had only been displayed at the T-Wharf in Fairfax Harbour, Port Moresby, not kept at his private residence or office. “The circulating photo showing the three Maseratis parked at Fairfax Harbour is simply for display,” Mr. Kaeok stated. “It is outrageous to claim I took them for personal use; this is a complete fabrication.”
The Minister asserted that these false claims were a deliberate attempt by political rivals to damage his reputation and mislead the public. Mr. Kaeok further confirmed that all 33 Maserati vehicles are being sold through a formal tender process. Acting CEO of the National Procurement Commission, Joe Sapa, verified that a Public Tender Notice for the remaining Maseratis was issued last month, allowing interested buyers to place bids. Mr. Sapa noted that each Maserati is priced at K500,000, with a non-refundable tender application fee of K500. He added that prospective buyers could inspect the fleet upon request.
