Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Superintendent Martin Lakari says, more reinforcements will be sent to Hela to quell lawlessness.
Superintendent Lakari said this, after Saturday's torching of several houses at Wapia village in Hela by police, who conducted a raid to flush out suspects involved in the attack on two of their colleagues and vehicle. The two policemen were conducting patrols in the area during the festive period, when they stumbled upon a roadblock mounted by locals. An argument ensued, resulting in locals hurling rocks and other weapons at the policemen. Superintendent Lakari condemned the attack on his men, urging the Hela people to change their attitude or face tough police action. Owner and operator of the popular Warili Backpackers Lodge in Tari, Steven Wari says, food gardens and over 20 houses were destroyed, in the raid. Comments are closed.
