The Police Headquarters in Port Moresby says it is confident of finding out by the end of this week, the cause of riots at the Manus Detention Centre, and who is responsible for it.
Deputy Police Commissioner and Chief of Operations Simon Kauba told NBC News, investigations on the island is progressing well, despite unfavourable response from one or two security guards and other individuals who are not cooperating well with the investigation team. Deputy Commissioner Kauba however says every information and witness statements will be properly screened and acted on. Manus police has employed its Criminal investigators, while Special Service Division Director Superintendent Samson Kua was also directed to be present when investigations began. A police forensics team has also been flown into Manus to help with investigations. Meantime, the autopsy into the death of Iranian asylum seeker Reza Berati has revealed massive injuries to his head. Mr. Kauba says initial reports from Manus also points out that rioting started within the detention camp and not outside.
