A 19-year-old man from Veifa Village in Mekeo, Central Province, was apprehended by police officers from the Vision City Police Post in Port Moresby. The arrest occurred when foot patrol officers observed the man acting suspiciously. Upon stopping and searching him, police discovered a homemade pistol and a live 9mm round of ammunition in his possession. The suspect, who resides at the Nine Mile Kerema block, was promptly taken to the Vision City Police Post. He was subsequently charged with loitering and possessing offensive weapons. Following the arrest, the man was transferred to the Boroko Police Station, where he remains in detention without bail.
Police in Port Moresby have intensified street patrols as the festive season approaches. The increased presence of officers aims to ensure public safety and deter criminal activities during this busy period. Meanwhile, the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) is preparing to introduce street wardens to maintain order. Initiatives to eradicate street vending and littering are also underway to promote a cleaner and safer city environment.
